Reading
- Ten steps to help your child read better. Read, Read, Read, Read, Read, Read, Read, Read, Read, AND Read SOME MORE!!!!!
- Sit next to your child while he/she is reading out loud. Stop every two or three paragraphs and ask questions about what was read. If your child can give you the correct answers, reward them by you reading. After you have read several paragraphs again ask questions about what was read. This will help your child with comprehension, fluency, and listening skills.
- Pick books on their level. Have your child read the first page of the book. If he/she can’t read or doesn’t understand five words on that page then the book is too hard.
Math
- Practice multiplication skills daily. If your child does not know all the multiplication facts, buy some flash cards and review only the facts not known for 5 minutes a day. Or you can go to some of the websites I have listed. Most of them have games for multiplication.
- Have your child bring home their math interactive notebook and study at home. If you choose to do this please make sure the notebook is put in their backpack for class the next day.
- Have your child teach you some of the games they have learned in class. This makes learning fun.
